CBAM
From a reporting obligation
to a supply-chain strategy question
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) sets a fair price on the carbon embedded in imports of carbon-intensive goods into the EU, aiming to prevent carbon leakage and push cleaner industrial production in third countries.
For importers, that means a new, recurring reporting and — from 2026 — financial obligation, calculated on data that in most cases has to come from suppliers who have never had to report it before.
We’ve worked on CBAM from both sides of the border: with EU importers building compliance capability, and with non-EU ministries and suppliers building the data and decarbonization response.
Embedded emissions calculation
Calculation of embedded emissions across the supply chain, aligned to the CBAM default and actual-values methodologies — including cases with limited or no supplier data
CBAM Financial Liability Assessment
Our proprietary methodology to quantify the actual financial exposure a company faces under CBAM — turning a compliance number into a figure the CFO can plan around. One of Kickster's seven core proprietary methodologies (see Methodologies)
Supplier engagement & data collection
Structured supplier outreach programmes to collect verifiable, audit-ready emissions data from Tier-1 suppliers who are new to this kind of reporting
Tier-1 supplier decarbonization strategy
Beyond reporting: a decarbonization roadmap for Tier-1 suppliers, designed to reduce the client's embedded-emissions exposure over time, not just report it accurately
National ETS and CBAM interaction advisory
For governments and ministries: capacity building to design national carbon pricing schemes that interact coherently with CBAM, including multi-stakeholder platform engagement.
